About a half a million years ago, I used to volunteer with a charming and heartwarming place called ArtHeart Community Art Centre, while it was still located in the basement of Sts. Cyril & Methody Orthodox church off Dundas St. Having leapt across the road, ArtHeart now takes up residence in the famous Daniels Spectrum building, on the second floor. Over the next six weeks, I’ll be assisting them get ready for “SPRUNG!”, a building-wide exhibition at Daniels. The piece we’ll be crafting is unique: made from three doors hinged together, this folding fan-type structure will bear the letters of “ArtHeart” on one side, with ethereal figures bearing interior landscapes on the other. A large scale project, this will be seen beside the many other fantastic paintings and other art works created by the highly talented participants there during the show.
Below are some short descriptions of both the show and ArtHeart itself. More to follow!
When we think of spring we think of new beginnings, revitalization, warmer, fresher air, growth, and change. During the cold, dark winter months we daydream about the Spring to help us cope with the harsh weather. The ArtHeart Adult participants have used these themes to inspire their next show by creating vivid, original works of art that stir the soul and push us forward to the next season.
