Back in May, I was interviewed by Dennis Hanagan, a reporter from the downtown community newspaper, The Bulletin, based on the St James Town BMO Seeds Fund winning mural project, Welcome Home. The article was originally intended for the July edition, but I’m glad that it was held up as the majority of the project’s developments took place this same month. We were able to fit in important new details, such as the inclusion of team leaders Mehdia and Maryam Hassan.
Figuring prominently in the article is friend and local resident, Poonam Sharma, an artist whose talents are one of the key reasons St James Town Arts (with which WH is associated) exists. Her traditional Indian Warli art, discussed in the piece, has recently been exhibited at an art show for newcomers to Canada at Turtle House. You can take a look at her site, Rang Riva, on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/RangRiva
Our article, “Ancient art, mural project show talent” can be viewed on the Bulletin website, http://www.oldtowntoronto.com/flipbooks/August-2014/files/html5/mobile/index.html. I haven’t yet managed to get a high resolution digital version of this to include here, so have stuck in a scanned copy of the hardcopy below, too! Click to enlarge.
